Recently, I was journaling and considering some of the core beliefs that have been with me for a while but are not true. One core belief that I have discovered about myself is ‘conflict divides.’

Throughout my life, I have had a very high level of fear whenever there has been conflict in a relationship. I have feared that the conflict is going to somehow cause division in my relationship with that person.

This fear is somewhat valid based on many experiences where conflicts were not able to be resolved. On the other hand, when I take time to consider this belief, I realize that I have also had many experiences where a conflict has resulted in a closer, stronger relationship.

Take my husband, for example. He and I have had many conflicts over the last thirty years of marriage! Our conflicts were the worst early in our marriage when we were just learning how to live with one another. We were such opposites.

Our pre-marriage counselor laughed out loud as he tallied our personality tests; he could see several potential challenges as we stared at each other with loving optimism before we said, “I do.”

On our wedding day, my dad gave my husband and me the following advice: Never go to bed angry. My parents had celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary a week earlier and that was their advice. Thirty years later, I can honestly say, we have been committed to talking through our differences.

We have spent many nights talking into the dawn. Sometimes it has taken a while. Sometimes it has happened over several conversations, but we have worked through most of our differences—at least the ones that matter. I am blessed with a husband who has been committed to working through conflicts.

The truth about conflicts is that they can cause division, but they may not. In the middle of a conflict, I am not always aware of this reality. However, when I take a step back from the fear and emotions, I can see many experiences where conflict has brought me closer to another.

Conflicts pass and new perspectives come. It turns out conflicts do not need to be feared. When properly embraced, they can be quite enlightening. The truth about conflict is that it can result in a better relationship.

If conflict itself doesn’t divide, then what does? I would like to suggest that Yahushua divides. I know this is a concerning statement, but for a moment, let’s consider it. Our Master said:

These words of our Master may be hard to digest, nonetheless, Yahushua is okay with dividing families. The same Elohim who has put in our hearts a love for our families also wants us to be fully devoted to Him.

At times we must even deny the love we have for our families to follow our Master. Most likely all followers of Yahushua have experienced this.

I have always enjoyed time with my family, as a child and as an adult with my children. Family time is important! Holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals, and all that’s in between can be wonderful times for families to be together.

Yet, in our walk with Yahushua, my husband and I have denied ourselves in this area and followed Him to His end-time place of protection.

By following Yahushua to leave our homeland and live in foreign country, our family understands what it is like to deny ourselves and leave our family. We understand what it is like to make difficult relational choices.

Sure, my husband and I have our children with us, but our parents have not followed our call; our brothers and sisters are not near us; our aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews are not here either.

It has been a lonely road for all of us!

Relational loss is perhaps one of the greatest challenges people need to overcome to walk out this calling. It has been for us. We seldom share this side of things about our family as our desire is to encourage the reader and empower the reader to follow Yahushua.

I do not share these things to conjure up sympathy or even praise for our family—neither is what we desire. I say this because the End Time call for the Bride of Messiah requires people who are willing to give up ALL to follow Him.

The Bride will be willing to put Him ahead of their family members. Yahushua is not looking for people who want to put the pleasures of this world ahead of Him—even if those pleasures are seemingly good.

For example, the pleasures of holding your newborn grandchildren in your arms or the pleasures of seeing your children get married—these are all good, but our Master said that His coming will be as in the Days of Noah.

It’s not that our family doesn’t enjoy eating and drinking and people getting married. We’d love to be a part of that! After living in a foreign country, we’d especially love to be a part of these events with people from our culture.

However, our hearts are fixed on the coming of Yahushua Messiah. We care more about preparing for our wedding day with Him than anything else in this world. So, we deny the desires we have in this world and keep our eyes fixed on Him.

If Yahushua is calling you to be a part of His Bride, He must love you a lot! It is a joyful thing to be chosen by Him. The loss is not worth comparing to the joy that is before His beloved Bride.

The following article was written by one of our daughters, six years ago when she was just ten years old. Most people are completely unaware that this clear image exists. Coincidence? We don’t think so.

There are some formations in the countries of Israel, Palestine, and Jordan that can be seen on a satellite map. A satellite map is a picture taken from space by an artificial satellite of part or the whole earth.

One of the most amazing and special things we can see looking at a satellite map is a clear picture of an eagle spreading his wings over Jordan.

Can you see the picture of the eagle?

The top of this satellite picture is the modern-day country of Israel. The bottom of the map is modern-day Jordan. The body of water between Israel and Jordan is the Salt Sea.

In this picture, I am pointing to the head of the eagle. On top of the eagle’s head is a crown.

In the picture above, I am pointing to the talons of the eagle. Talons are the claws on the eagle’s feet. An eagle is a bird of prey. An eagle can destroy his enemies, but an eagle could also be very protective.

This picture highlights the left wing of the eagle. This area is known in the Bible as the Paran Wilderness.

On the map above, you can see part of the left wing. My brother is pointing out that Petra is hidden under the eagle’s wing.

Jordan is to the east of Israel. As the sun rises over Jordan and sets over Israel, Jordan is in the shadow of the eagle’s wings.

Scriptures about Protection under the Eagle’s Wings

I picked out some verses that have to do with protection under YHWH’s wings or the wings of eagles. There are lots of other verses in the Bible that talk about those two things. One of the reasons why I picked out these ones is because they show protection under the shadow of His wings when the destruction comes. They also talk about trusting and praising YHWH.

Moab is in Jordan—right under the eagle’s wings! The satellite picture that we are looking at is right over Edom and Moab, which is modern day Jordan. Scriptures show YHWH has planned a good place for a remnant to be protected under the eagle’s wings. This map is an incredible testimony to this!

This week is a very special week for those who observe our Creator’s holidays. Or better put, appointments. This is the week our family remembers the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Below is a poem written by my youngest daughter that is quite anointed and I find very touching. Of course, I’m biased.

What I like most of about this poem is it touches on the three main aspects of Passover that our family focuses on every year. You see, this is our 16th consecutive year observing the Passover memorial.

Like all holidays and traditions, we have grown in our understanding by leaps and bounds over those years. The further our revelation develops, the more we shed traditions that do not coincide with it.

So, back to the three main components of Passover we focus on each year. Each component takes on deeper meaning for us as we grow in our walks with Elohim. I will share one quick scripture for each.

First, The Exodus from Egypt

This is the commanded feast to be remembered year after year according to Scripture.

Second, The Death and Resurrection of our Savior

Our Savior, Yahushua, was crucified and resurrected during the Passover season. He is the Passover Lamb and the center of all deliverance on earth!

Referring to the remembrance of the Passover, the apostle Paul summarized that night’s significance.

Third, (overlooked by most) The Future Exodus (aka the Ingathering)

Many scriptures speak of those who YHWH promises to deliver during the tribulation, who will greet Yahushua face to face and reign with Him. We see this as paramount in many respects to remembering the past.

This is what our lives as the 9 Sojourners has been changed by, and our calling defined by.

Afterall, scripture tells us this:

If you remember the Passover this year, remember all three of these special elements to this set apart time. And don’t forget the emphasis our Creator puts on the future that He has proclaimed (dare I say shouted) through His prophets!

The Passover Lamb

The Passover lamb, our yearly remembrance
We recall the story of Yah’s deliverance
Vigilant and hopeful on this night
When we consider Elohim’s might

The Egyptians treated the Israelites harsh
A baby boy found among the marsh
Almighty God had a plan of salvation
He heard the cries of His creation

A command to let the people go
A hardened heart, the answer—No!
Send lice, boils and rotten fish
Now slaughter a lamb with no blemish

Delivered from bondage, behold the lamb,
Tell them I am, that which I am.

Leaving His Father, the throne above
He taught us how to walk and how to love.
Blameless and upright; a Healer of men
The cross, He came to apprehend

Oppressed, His mouth He did not open.
Died on the tree,fulfilling all the prophets had spoken.
He stood humiliated, bearing the shame,
And paid the price, ignoring the pain.

This is our Passover lamb,
Who gave His life for every man.

Though we trust in Him to make us free
Enslaved to this world is our current reality
Nation against nation, love gone cold
Our liberties taken, like slaves we are sold

Another Exodus is coming, He will gather His sheep
Those who follow, His harvest they’ll reap
Greater, more magnificent, than the first
He’ll nourish those who hunger and thirst

An ingathering from every nation
A day of joyful salvation

The Passover story gives us wondrous hope
For now, this lamb helps us to cope
Proclaiming a life that is later,
The Passover lamb is Yahushua, our Savior.

The Greater Exodus: One Gathering Place or Many??

I have read the Gospel of John countless times since I first started reading the Bible in 1991. Nicodemus, seeking the Teacher by night with no others around hearing his questions reflects my first approach to Him.

The woman at the well, her hidden sin, but willingness to admit anything in this Man’s presence also mirrors my quiet moments with Yahushua.

When I read John’s writings, I’m there. I’m sitting with my Savior, leaning into His gentleness and love—just as John did.

When I do not understand something, I pause and ask Yahushua to teach me. Sometimes the answer comes right away. And sometimes, I wait for an answer—days, weeks, years.

Years.

It was years before I understood a few verses in John 16.

John 16:8-11 “And having come, He [the Helper] shall convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment – concerning sin because they do not believe in Me, concerning righteousness because I go to My Father and you see Me no more, concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is judged.

Sin. Righteousness. Judgment.

What did these words have to do with each other?

Why did Yahushua say the role of the Helper, the Set-apart Spirit of Yah, was to convict the world regarding these three?

For many years, as I read these words, I did not fully understand them. It wasn’t obtuse, but for some reason these verses stumped me. Between Yahushua and me, I wasn’t afraid to admit it. I asked Him for understanding and kept reading.

Revelation Came

In 2010, I started keeping the commandments of YHWH. I did not become Jewish, reject Yahushua, or fall from grace. Quite the contrary. I simply understood teaching of Yahushua that had been sitting right in my Bible the whole time: to love Him means to keep His commands.

Yahushua said:

John 14:15 “If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.”

John 15:9-10 “As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love. If you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.”

John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”

When these verses are read in context, we find out that Yahushua came to teach His Father’s commandments. He came to show us how to live a righteous life.

He did not come to show us an example that should be disregarded as “old law” and tossed aside, but He came to fully show us how to live a righteous life according to the commandments.

This understanding gives context to the verses in John 16 that perplexed me for many years.

Concerning Sin

“Concerning sin because they do not believe in Me.”

Sin itself isn’t the whole problem. We all sin, and there’s no denying it.

Yah’s Spirit came to convict us, not only of our sin, which is a job easily done by our conscience, but of not believing in Yahushua for the forgiveness of sin.

We need His Spirit to convince us that we need Yahushua’s death to atone for our sins.

Concerning Righteousness

“Concerning righteousness because I go to My Father and you see Me no more.”

What is righteousness?

Simply put, it’s doing right in the eyes of Elohim.

How do we know what is right?

We study YHWH’s commands.

The 10 commandments is a good place to start. (Exodus 20) An honest read of these commandments should convict anyone. All 10 commandments were taught by Yahushua. We should recall that He said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah [Yah’s instructions] or the Prophets.” (Matthew 5:17)

Further, Yahushua continued:

Matthew 5:19 “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.”

When Yahushua was on earth with His disciples, He taught His Father’s commandments through word and deed. When He was leaving them, He exhorted them to keep the commands and teach others to do the same.

Sadly, through modern Christianity, many have been taught that YHWH’s commands are either done away with or changed somehow. This is what I was taught when I first accepted Yahushua as my Lord and Savior. And this is why I could not understand what I was reading in John 16.

Yahushua’s death and resurrection did not change any of YHWH’s commandments. His early followers, the apostles knew and taught them. They stayed away from idols; they knew His personal Name and proclaimed it; they kept the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week.

No where in the Scriptures is there even a hint that Yahushua or His followers rewrote the commandments or taught others to follow a contrary set of instructions. The commands from the beginning were always the instruction book. With Yahushua came greater revelation, not abolishment.

The Apostle John wrote:

1 John 2:4-5 The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

1 John 2:6 The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.

1 John 5:1-2 Everyone who believes that יהושע is the Messiah has been born of Elohim, and everyone who loves the One bringing forth also loves the one having been born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands.

Concerning Judgment

“Concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is judged.”

Yahushua is returning to judge the world. The Scriptures—from Genesis to Revelation—couldn’t be clearer that He is coming back to judge the nations. By judge, I mean destroy.

He has not left His people without hope. He has a plan of salvation for the forgiveness of sins as well as concerning the judgment that will be poured out on the nations. His plan is to save a remnant who are marked by two non-negotiable truths:

1. They will have a testimony, a life-changing experience, with Yahushua.

2. They will keep His commands, the commandments taught throughout the entirety of Scripture.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon [the ruler of this world who is judged] was enraged with the woman, and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands of Elohim and possessing the witness of יהושע [Yahushua] Messiah.

We need the Set-apart Spirit to convict us concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is already judged. He knows his time is short. In his little remaining time, he is going after YHWH’s people.

YHWH has given us instructions and prophecy that will help us escape the judgment. The Spirit of Yah will confirm the way of salvation.

What is missing from most gospel presentations?

First and foremost, the foundational instruction that a believer in Yahushua must keep a set of commands is missing from most gospel presentations.

The Bible is clear; those of us who were taught differently were taught wrong. We inherited traditions from man.

Second, most gospel presentations are missing the urgency of the hour of YHWH’s righteous judgment. He is coming soon. There’s a plan of salvation, an escape for the remnant.

YHWH called my family to live as sojourners. It was a call to leave our homeland and prepare for Yahushua’s return. A call to detach ourselves from land, relationships, careers, and possessions.

Although the call of a sojourner is personal to my family, it may just be a call for all YHWH’s people in the End Days.

“Be as Pilgrims on the Earth”

When it comes to End Times prophecy, the extra-biblical Book of 2 Esdras is a priceless treasure. This book records revelations given to Ezra the Scribe while he was in Babylon.

The 1611 King James Bible included 2 Esdras, but it was later removed. However, some groups, such as the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, still uphold it as inspired Scripture. The book is also known as 4 Esdras and Latin Ezra.

2 Esdras Chapter 16 contains prophecy for the End Days. It describes tribulations throughout the whole earth. Towards the end of the chapter, YHWH gives His people an important admonishment.

2 Esdras 16:40 “O My people, hear My word: make ready for the battle, and in those calamities be even as pilgrims on the earth.” (Literal Standard Version)

Pilgrims are sojourners. Other translations say, “You must live as people whose home is not in this world,” or, “Be like strangers on the earth.” (Good News Translation with Apocrypha and World English Bible British Edition, respectively)

A Lesson from the Book of Jeremiah

The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 35, mentions a group of people known as the Rekabites. Even though they were native Judeans, the Rekabites lived a nomadic lifestyle. They were sojourners traveling in tents. They kept this lifestyle in honor of what their father commanded them.

Jeremiah 35:6a,7b “They [Rekabites] said, ‘…Yonadab the son of Rekab, our father, commanded us, saying, “…do not build a house…dwell in tents all your days, so that you live many days on the face of the land where you are sojourners.” (TS2009)

Jeremiah 35:8a,10a “‘So we obeyed the voice of Yonadab son of Rekab, our father, in all that he commanded us…we dwell in tents.’” (TS2009)

When Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, attacked Judea, the Rekabites’ lifestyle saved them. Because they weren’t bound to homes and land, they escaped the Babylonian army. YHWH was pleased with the Rekabites, and He promised a descendant of Rekab would always stand before Him!

Just as the sojourners’ lifestyle was significant for the Rekabites, it is crucial for Yah’s people living in the End Days. That is why YHWH called His people to live as sojourners in the days approaching the Tribulation.

Waiting for My Home

As a sojourner in the Middle East, I am aware that my citizenship is not in this world. I seek Yahushua’s coming Kingdom. Until He comes and restores righteousness on the earth, I will never truly be at home.

Hebrews 13:14 “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” (NLT)

1 Peter 2:11a “Beloved ones, I appeal to you as sojourners and pilgrims.” (TS2009)

John 17:16 “They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.” (TS2009)

Philippians 3:20a “But our citizenship is in heaven.” (NIV)

Living as a sojourner is a small sacrifice compared to the promise of Messiah and the rest we’ll experience in His Kingdom.

2 Clement 5:5 “You know, brothers, that the sojourning of our flesh in this world is but short and for a little while, but the promise of Christ is great and wonderful, even the rest of the kingdom which is to come, and of continuous life.” (LSV)

Matthew 26:13 “Truly, I say to you, wherever this Good News is proclaimed in all the world, what this woman has done shall be spoken of also, to her remembrance.”

What did this woman do? What was so remarkable that wherever the Good News is proclaimed, she would be mentioned in remembrance?

Before we can answer these questions, we need to define the Good News of which Yahushua spoke. It was the same Good News his disciples proclaimed. This Good News is still being proclaimed today.

The Good News is that Yahushua, born of a woman, born the Son of Elohim (God), lived a sinless life and died to become a sin offering for all. That’s the first part—Yahushua’s death. The second part of the Good News is that Yahushua rose from the dead. He defeated both sin and death and became the first to be resurrected from the dead. His death and resurrection are the Good News and the foundation of belief for all those who will join Him to live for eternity.

So, what did this woman do?

Let’s set the scene.

It was two days before the Passover—the feast that memorialized the salvation of the firstborn of Yah’s people when they were living in Egypt.

At the time of Yahushua (as is true today), there were several sects of Judaism. The sects formed because of disagreements, and they disagreed on Yah’s calendar. There were the Pharisees who followed the moon and the Sadducees who did likewise. The Essenes followed a solar-lunar calendar; they may have been following the same calendar as Yahushua. We can derive from the Biblical accounts that Yahushua was not following the same calendar as the majority of “Jews” of the day, as He observed the Passover a day before them.

Given that this was two days before the Passover, and many were observing it that week, on different days, calendar observances would have been a subject for debate as religious men gathered. Passions were high; all thought they were on the side of truth.

More on the scene…

This woman was in Bethany in the home of “Simon the Leper” according to the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. Very similar incidents are recorded in the Gospels of Luke and John, with small differences in the scene. For the sake of this article, we are going to stick with the scene as portrayed by Matthew and Mark, as they are clearly the same. Whether Luke and John’s accounts are the same is a good subject for study and discussion. If you are interested, the references are Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:36-50, and John 12:1-8.

From the account in Matthew, we know that Yahushua sat at a table, eating. We can suppose that Simon the Leper was with Him. Further, Yahushua’s disciples were present. From observing other scenes in Scripture, it’s safe to say that others were there. At this point, two days before the Passover, Yahushua had raised Lazarus from the dead. He was attracting attention and crowds wherever he went. Likely, the gathering in Simon’s home was a big one with Yahushua’s disciples, Pharisees, and others.

This woman came to Him at the table, having an alabaster flask of costly perfume. We do not know how she obtained the perfume. Did she inherit it? Did she do something unethical to get it? Was she a wealthy woman? The text doesn’t say. All we know is that the perfume was hers, and she chose to pour it on Yahushua’s head.

While the men sat talking, debating, laughing, eating, this woman walked passed them all.

To draw near Yahushua, she walked past the men hovering around the table—the ones taking pleasure in Yahushua’s presence, the ones enjoying special seats of honor at the table, the ones standing back hoping Yahushua would trip over His words, the ones unsure of Him and asking questions in the background.

She walked past those who knew her past shame, those who would remind her of her sins if only they could use it to their advantage. She walked past the ones who tolerated her presence because Yahushua did, but were never really sure why He allowed her to come so close.

She walked past all of them and poured perfume on His head at the table.

She was criticized. “It could have been sold for much and given to the poor.” Her critics didn’t care about the poor. They wanted the money. But this woman didn’t care about the money, not in the presence of Yahushua.

Why did she do it?

Why did she do it? Yahushua explained, “She did it for My burial.”

He silenced them—even their thoughts—when He said, “Truly, I say to you, wherever this Good News is proclaimed in all the world, what this woman has done shall be spoken of also to her remembrance.”

Matthew, who was there, took note of this; he recorded it in his Gospel account. John was also an eyewitness. Possibly, Mark was there. Luke may not have been there, but he undoubtedly heard the story from those who were present. All four Gospels tell a perspective of this outrageous act of worship that would be recorded and remembered wherever the Good News is preached.

Okay, let’s go back to our question. What was so amazing about this woman’s act that all four gospel accounts record it (or something very closely related)? Was it simply that Yahushua said it would be told that these men recorded it? Or did something touch them so deeply that they felt compelled to share?

Let’s back up in the narrative.

When Yahushua was with his disciples in Caesarea Philippi, He asked them, “Who do men say the Son of Adam is?” (Matthew 16:15)

Peter answered correctly. He testified, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim.”

Peter’s enlightenment pleased Yahushua so much that Yahushua began teaching His disciples about His destiny in Jerusalem.

Matthew 16:21 From that time יהושע [Yahushua] began to show to His taught ones that it was necessary for Him to go to Yerushalayim [Jerusalem], and to suffer much from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and to be raised again the third day.

Yahushua’s destiny was to die in Jerusalem. The prophets pointed to this. His coming Kingdom depended on it.

His closest companions rejected it. Peter accepted that Yahushua was the Messiah, but, before Yahushua’s death, Peter rejected His fate to suffer and die. Peter had yet to receive Him as the Passover Lamb.

It was two days before the Passover, and still Yahushua wanted His disciples to understand what He had to do in Jerusalem.

Matthew 26:1-2 And it came to be, when יהושע [Yahushua] ended all these words, He said to His taught ones, “You know that after two days the Pěsaḥ [Passover] takes place, and the Son of Aḏam is to be delivered up to be impaled.”

His disciples still did not understand, but this woman understood. Before this woman poured perfume on His head, she sat at His feet. She listened to His teaching. Before a drop left the bottle, her tears washed His feet; she was ashamed of her unrighteousness.

This woman realized what Yahushua was about to do. She perceived that He was doing it for her, for her sins. Her offering did not compare with His, and she knew that, too. She was aligned with His purpose in Jerusalem.

Yahushua needed someone to acknowledge His purpose, someone to see the sorrow in His eyes as He sat among them. He needed someone to pour perfume on Him and remind Him that His offering was a sweet fragrance to His Father in Heaven. He needed someone to see His humanity and comfort Him. He needed a reminder that His sacrifice would be worth it.

This woman was His reminder. She offered what Yahushua required most—compassion, presence, understanding, and gratefulness. She offered it when He needed it the most.

This woman set aside her dignity in the presence of men, and Yahushua honored her for all time.

This is the woman Yahushua is still seeking.
